LED Signs Brisbane

Custom LED illuminated signage for Brisbane businesses — channel letters, lightboxes, pylon signs and halo-lit displays. Fabricated and installed by licensed electricians.

Event signage

LED signs make your business visible around the clock — by day they present a polished, professional image; after dark they become the most visible landmark in the street. ProGroup Signs designs, fabricates and installs custom LED illuminated signage for Brisbane businesses, from single illuminated letters above a shop entrance to full-height LED pylon signs at commercial developments.

LED Sign Types

LED Channel Letters

Individual three-dimensional letters with LED modules inside the letter body. Face-illuminated channel letters glow from the front face. Halo-illuminated (reverse channel) letters are installed off the wall and the LEDs glow behind the letter, creating a halo of light on the building surface — a premium effect for high-end retail, hospitality and corporate environments.

Illuminated Lightboxes

Aluminium cabinet with one or two acrylic or fabric faces, backlit with LED modules. Available in any size from small fascia-mounted formats to large format double-sided projecting signs. LED lightboxes produce even, consistent illumination without hot spots. We retro-fit LED modules into existing fluorescent lightbox cabinets, significantly reducing energy consumption and maintenance frequency.

LED Pylon Signs & Totems

Free-standing illuminated signs on a structural steel pole or aluminium cabinet pedestal. Pylon signs position your branding at height — visible over fences, parked cars and other obstructions. Common in service stations, hospitality venues, shopping centres and commercial developments. Require structural engineering and council development approval.

Halo-Illuminated Panel Signs

Aluminium panel signs with cut-out or applied lettering, installed off the wall surface. LED modules inside the panel cavity illuminate the reveal around the letters. A clean, high-end look suited to corporate reception areas, building facades and hospitality venues where restraint is valued over high-visibility impact.

LED vs Fluorescent Signage

Businesses converting from fluorescent to LED signage typically see a 60–70% reduction in electricity costs for sign illumination. LEDs last 10 times longer than fluorescent lamps, eliminating the repeated cost and inconvenience of lamp replacements. LEDs also perform better in Queensland's climate — fluorescent lamps lose output in high temperatures, whereas LEDs maintain consistent brightness. For new signage, LED is the only technology we specify.

Council Approval for LED Signs

Queensland councils regulate LED signage through their planning schemes, particularly for animated or dynamic content, signs above a certain size, and signs within certain zones or overlays. ProGroup Signs is experienced in navigating Brisbane City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council and surrounding councils' sign policies. We advise on what approvals are required, prepare DA documentation and manage the approval process on your behalf.

Common Questions

LED Signs FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about LED illuminated signage.

Do I need council approval for an LED sign?+
Most LED signs require council development approval (DA) or at minimum comply with the local planning scheme's exempt development provisions. Requirements vary significantly between council areas — size, height, location, luminance limits and animation restrictions all affect what approvals are needed. ProGroup Signs navigates this process for you: we assess your site against the relevant planning scheme, advise on what approvals are required and prepare or manage the DA where necessary.
How long do LED signs last?+
Commercial-grade LED modules used in signage are typically rated at 50,000 to 100,000 hours of operation — that's over 11 years running 24/7. In practice, a sign operated on a timed circuit (dawn to midnight, for example) can last 20+ years before LED replacement is required. The power supply and driver components have a shorter service life and are the most common components requiring replacement in the 8–12 year range.
What types of LED signs do you make?+
ProGroup Signs manufactures LED channel letters (individual 3D letters with LED illumination), illuminated lightboxes (single or double-sided), LED pylon signs and totems, halo-illuminated (backlit) letters where light glows behind the letter against the wall, and LED-illuminated acrylic and aluminium panel signs. We also supply LED modules for retro-fitting existing fluorescent lightboxes.
Can the sign be dimmed or controlled remotely?+
Yes. We can integrate dimmable LED drivers and wireless or timer-based control systems into any LED sign. This allows brightness to be reduced during off-peak hours for energy saving or to meet council luminance conditions, and to schedule the sign to turn off automatically overnight. Remote control via smartphone app is available on larger installations.
Is LED more expensive than fluorescent?+
LED signage typically has a higher upfront cost than equivalent fluorescent signage. However, LED signs cost significantly less to run and maintain. Lower energy consumption, no lamp replacements for 10+ years and no ballast failures mean LED signs generally recover the price premium within 2–4 years of operation through savings in electricity and maintenance costs.
