Lightbox Signage Brisbane

Custom illuminated lightbox signs for Brisbane businesses. Single-sided, double-sided and slim-line LED panel formats — fabricated and installed by our team.

Lightbox Signage

A lightbox sign delivers the highest visibility of any sign format — illuminated consistently day and night, it ensures your business is identifiable in all light conditions. ProGroup Signs designs, fabricates and installs custom lightbox signs for Brisbane businesses, from compact single-sided fascia-mounted lightboxes to large double-sided projecting blade signs visible from both directions on a busy street.

Types of Lightbox Signage

Single-Sided Fascia Lightboxes

The most common lightbox format — a flat-fronted or slightly profiled cabinet mounted flush to a building facade. Printed translucent face illuminated from behind. Available in any size, standard or custom aluminium extrusion systems. A single-sided fascia lightbox is the primary shopfront identification sign for the majority of retail and commercial tenancies.

Double-Sided Projecting (Blade) Lightboxes

A projecting lightbox extends at 90 degrees from the building wall, displaying graphics on both faces — one for pedestrian and vehicle traffic approaching from each direction. Projecting lightboxes are the most visible form of shopfront signage because they can be seen from a much wider angle than a flat fascia sign. They require a structural wall mount or custom bracket and are subject to council approval for projection over a public footpath.

Slim-Line LED Panel Lightboxes

Ultra-thin lightboxes using LED light guide panel technology — 30–50mm deep rather than the 100–200mm of a conventional cabinet lightbox. The LED guide panel distributes light from edge-mounted LEDs across the entire panel face with exceptional uniformity. Popular in premium retail, hospitality and corporate environments where a minimal, high-design aesthetic is required.

Fabric Tension Lightboxes

An aluminium frame system with a tensioned fabric graphic face — the fabric is printed with dye sublimation and tensioned into the frame to create a smooth, wrinkle-free surface with no panel joints. Fabric tension lightboxes are lighter than conventional cabinet systems and allow quick graphic changes. The graphic can be replaced without tools. Popular for retail window displays, exhibition backwalls and internal feature walls.

LED Conversion of Existing Lightboxes

If you have an existing lightbox currently using fluorescent tubes, converting to LED illumination typically reduces electricity consumption by 60–70% and eliminates the cost and disruption of regular fluorescent lamp replacement. We supply LED retrofit kits compatible with most commercial lightbox cabinet formats, including louvre trays, LED bar arrays and LED panel inserts.

Graphic Face Replacement

One of the key advantages of lightbox signs is that the printed face can be replaced independently of the cabinet. When your branding evolves or promotions change, we print and install a new face — the expensive aluminium and LED infrastructure is retained and reused. This makes lightboxes a cost-efficient long-term signage investment.

Common Questions

Lightbox Signage FAQs

Answers to common questions about lightbox signs.

What is a lightbox sign?+
A lightbox sign (also called an illuminated cabinet sign) is a box-shaped sign with a translucent face printed with your brand graphics and backlit from inside by LED modules. The LED illumination makes the sign visible and attention-grabbing at all times of day, and particularly prominent after dark. Lightboxes are available in single-sided (fascia-mounted against a wall) and double-sided (projecting from a wall at 90 degrees) configurations.
What is the difference between a standard lightbox and a slim-line lightbox?+
A standard lightbox has a deep aluminium cabinet — typically 100–200mm deep — that houses conventional LED strip arrays. A slim-line LED panel lightbox is much thinner — 30–50mm — using LED light guide panels that distribute light evenly from edge-mounted LEDs across the full panel surface. Slim-line lightboxes are more expensive but give a sleeker, more modern appearance and are popular in retail, hospitality and premium office fit-outs.
Can I update the graphic face without replacing the whole lightbox?+
Yes — this is one of the key advantages of a lightbox sign. The printed face is removable and replaceable independently of the cabinet and LED system. When your branding changes or artwork needs updating, you only replace the printed face — not the cabinet. This makes lightbox signs a cost-effective long-term signage investment, as the expensive aluminium and LED components can be reused across multiple artwork updates.
Do I need council approval for a lightbox sign?+
Lightbox signs typically require development approval (DA) from your local council, particularly for illuminated signs on a building facade. The requirement depends on sign size, location, zoning and your council's specific planning scheme. We assess your site and advise on approval requirements, and can prepare or manage the DA application on your behalf.
How energy efficient are LED lightbox signs?+
Modern LED lightbox signs are highly energy efficient — using 60–80% less electricity than equivalent fluorescent cabinet signs. A typical 1200mm × 900mm LED lightbox running 12 hours per day consumes approximately 20–40W, costing around $2–5 per month in electricity. LED modules also have a much longer lifespan than fluorescent tubes (50,000+ hours vs 10,000 hours), dramatically reducing ongoing maintenance costs.
