Window signs are one of the most visible and cost-effective forms of shopfront signage — they communicate directly to passing pedestrian and vehicle traffic, make your business visible from the street, and can transform a plain glass shopfront into a branded storefront. ProGroup Signs designs and installs custom window signage for Brisbane businesses across all industries, from simple cut vinyl lettering to full-colour printed window graphics.

Window Signage Options

Cut Vinyl Window Lettering

Precision-cut single-colour vinyl applied directly to the glass — the most cost-effective window signage option. Available in a wide range of opaque and metallic colours. Commonly used for business name, trading hours, contact details, ABN and accreditation logos. Rated for 5–7 years outdoors.

Full-Colour Printed Window Graphics

Digitally printed vinyl allows photographs, gradients, complex artwork and full brand graphics to be applied to your windows. Ideal for product photography, promotional imagery, and brand statements that require more than single-colour vinyl can deliver. Always laminated for UV and abrasion protection.

Frosted & Etched Vinyl

Frosted vinyl creates a sandblasted or acid-etched glass effect — allowing light through while providing privacy. Used extensively in office partitions, meeting room windows, bathroom screens, restaurant dividers and shopfronts where natural light is important but direct sightlines need to be managed. Available in plain frosted, patterned frosted and frosted with clear cut-out logos or designs.

One-Way Vision Window Film

Perforated vinyl that, when viewed from outside, displays full-colour graphics across the entire window. From inside, the perforations allow a clear outward view. Commonly used in retail windows, vehicle windows and privacy-sensitive shopfronts. Suited to higher-traffic windows where brand impact is the priority.

Window Sign Design Principles

Effective window signage balances visibility with transparency. A window that is 100% covered with vinyl loses the natural light and open feel that benefits most retail and hospitality spaces. The most effective window signs use vinyl strategically — occupying the lower third of the window (below eye line, where visibility from the street is highest), the glass border zones, or specific panels — leaving the central window area clear.

Maintaining Your Window Signs

Window vinyl is low-maintenance — clean with a soft cloth and non-abrasive, non-solvent-based cleaner. Avoid scraping or using sharp objects near vinyl edges. If a section lifts at the edge, have it re-pressed rather than attempting to re-adhere it yourself. ProGroup Signs offers a maintenance service for minor repairs and edge re-sealing.

Common Questions

Window Signs FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about window signs and vinyl graphics.

What types of window signage do you offer?+
We offer cut vinyl lettering (precision-cut single-colour vinyl), full-colour printed vinyl graphics (photos, gradients and complex artwork), frosted and etched-glass-effect vinyl (for privacy and aesthetics), one-way vision vinyl (lets you see out from inside, opaque from outside), and window decals and clings (non-adhesive options for temporary or seasonal use). Each material has specific applications — we recommend the right type for your window and purpose.
How long does window vinyl last?+
Quality outdoor window vinyl is rated for 5–7 years when applied to a correctly prepared surface and exposed to normal environmental conditions. North-facing windows in Queensland receive more UV exposure and may see slightly shorter life. Printed vinyl with a UV laminate protects the ink layer and extends service life significantly compared to unlaminated print.
Will window vinyl damage my glass when removed?+
No — correctly specified and properly removed window vinyl leaves no damage and minimal residue on the glass. The key factors are using a removable adhesive vinyl (as opposed to permanent adhesive), allowing adequate dwell time before removal, using heat to soften the adhesive, and peeling at a low angle. We use removable adhesive vinyl as standard for window applications.
Can I have a frosted effect on my windows?+
Yes. Frosted vinyl is a popular choice for office windows, shopfronts, bathrooms and partitions where you want to allow light through while creating privacy. We offer plain frosted vinyl for full-coverage privacy, frosted vinyl with clear cut-outs for logos or patterns, and decorative etched-glass-effect vinyl in various patterns. Frosted vinyl is a fraction of the cost of acid-etched or sandblasted glass.
Do I need council approval for window signs?+
Most shopfront window signs fall within exempt development provisions and do not require a development application — but this depends on your council area, the sign's size relative to the window area, and your tenancy's zoning. Signs that cover more than 25% of a window face or are in certain heritage or character zones may require approval. We'll advise on what's required for your specific location.
